
William J. Hodgkiss, of Doylestown, died on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 70.He was the beloved husband of 51 years to Nancy L. Carpentier Hodgkiss. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Euphamia Kelsey Hodgkiss. .Bill was a life long resident of Bucks County a graduate of Delhaas High School Class of 1958. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Defense after 26 years of service.A proud veteran of the United States Navy Sea Bees his was called to active duty during Desert Storm and retired after 24 years of service to his country as Chief Petty Officer.After his retirement from the Navy, Bill, a professional land surveyor, started his survey practice. Throughout his career he served on many planning commissions, zoning boards and for H.A.R.B. in three different Bucks County communities. In 1968, he formed the Shotokan Karate Association at the Lower Bucks YMCA, where he was the director and held a 7th degree black belt. The association is the largest Karate association on the East Coast, with 18 clubs in three states.He also gave his time and talents to baseball and was member of the North Penn Baseball Umpire association and umpired many middle and high school games.Since his retirement Bill has enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and Russia. He has been very present to his grandchildren and their endeavors and motivating them to find them selves and succeed.In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses; Holly Duffy and her husband Ron of Newtown, Cindi Succa and her husband Larry of Warminster, Barbara Fleischut and her husband Steve of Doylestown, Michael Hodgkiss and his wife Beth of Buckingham, he is also survived by one brother James and three sisters, Marilyn, Nancy, Kelly and his six dear grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, and Sarah Duffy, Tyler and Amanda Fleischut and Laura Succa and anxiously awaiting the birth of his seventh grandchild.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of his Life on Tuesday evening, Aug. 3, 2010 from 6 p.m. until Words of Remembrance at 8:30 p.m. Interment will be held privately at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Lower Bucks YMCA 601 South Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills 19030.
